True Love: The Chase ~ Trusting God with Your Happily Ever After... Part I

True Love: The Chase ~ Trusting God with Your Happily Ever After... Part I

What are you chasing after? When it comes to love and true love what are you chasing after?

As someone who runs all the time - aka… almost daily, and trains pretty heavily to run marathons… this question has always stuck with me… “What are you chasing after?… or Who are you chasing after?” ….and “What or Who do you want that reflection to be?”

As many of my friends have turned to online dating, dating in person, and have been looking for “True Love” .. turning to me for advice… etc…. this is one of the deepest questions to ask….and the one we will be exploring when Trusting God with your Happily Ever After…

Some of the questions to ask yourself as we begin to explore this a little more are:

  1. Are you trusting God with your relationship or future relationship?

  2. Are you trusting God with your Happily Ever After?

  3. Have you turned to God to help in this area?

  4. Have you prayed about your future spouse? Have you prayed for your future spouse?

  5. Who or what am I chasing?

I discovered this book many many years ago, and I love Kyle and Kelsey’s story….. because they stand in the light of truth of the amazing ways God works, how God brings people together and is the author of True Love.

One of the first things both point out is that no one is perfect, and sometimes people head in the wrong direction in their lives, but when you ask yourself “Who or What are You Chasing?” your life is put into perspective and you are reminded that the only direction you need to be headed in and the only one you are to be Chasing is God… When you have God as the navigator of your life, and you are just chasing God, God brings into your life the most amazing gifts that God wants to give you, including the person God has planned for you, and True Love.

So if you are looking for True Love or hoping for True Love…

The first step is

  1. Put God First. Your most important relationship in your entire life, is your relationship with God. Although other things might distract your attention, and might be asking you to put them first, the first relationship in your life is always to be God. When you are not focused on God, you can get caught up in yourself, self-centeredness, and selfishness… and these qualities are not attractive to anyone, nor do they empower you to be the person God calls every person to be. If you find the person you are in love with aka… your boyfriend or girlfriend etc has taken the number 1 spot in your life over God… it is time to rearrange and shift some things, and put god first. Remember you do not want to make your boyfriend or girlfriend or even your spouse your God. That creates a false idol. God is the one who deserves the first place in your life.

  2. When you allow yourself to put God first in your life, God opens the doors no one else can open, and God brings the person into your life God wants you to be with and the person God has planned for you - the person that will truly love you…. and you will have a relationship based on True Love. Making an idol of someone else is not a relationship based on True Love. And when you put God First, you can handle the ups and downs of a relationship… and stay grounded in the truth of what True Love is.

  3. When you stop chasing God first, that is when things in your relationship can go really crazy. God is always to have the first place in our hearts. We were made to love God more than anything and more than anyone. Then everyone else…. When we put a significant other before God, and can leave your relationship feeling empty, confusing, shallow, and leave it open to manipulation. Additionally, when you put God first in your life, you are humbled, because your recognize and own the truth that God has the ultimate plan, the divine plan for your life. We acknowledge God’s plans are better than our own. When things become difficult in a relationship (like every relationship has ups and downs), God is the one who gives you the grace to hold on to True Love. When you make a mistake, God is the one who is there to help you pick up the pieces, and forgive etc. and when someone else makes a mistake, God is the one to help you pick up the pieces and forgive….

  4. When you put your relationship with God first, your beauty and self-worth are wrapped up in God, not in another person. God brings you peace, confidence and the fruits of the Holy Spirit. You will also be able to spot who is meant for you and who is not meant for you. Additionally, when you are tested, you will be able to withstand the test and stand true to what you believe in, what you value, and treating others with dignity and respect. When you put God first, you are in alignment with God’s plan for your life, because God will be leading your heart. While you are praying to find the person God has planned for you etc…. You can also pray for that person. When you put God first in your life, God will put the person in your life God has chosen for you, or reveal to you who that person is… and you will know they are the person God has chosen for you… vs. someone- someone else has chosen for you or even who you think is the person for you or you have chosen for yourself, or a family member or friend has chosen for you…. even in the moments, as you are discerning who the person is for you, God will continue to reveal to you who that person is… and reveal to you that it is True Love.

What are some ways you can grow in your relationship with God?

How are you putting God first in your life?

Take some time this week to reflect on this, this week. Make a commitment to put God first in your life. That is the first step.

How else can we open ourselves up more deeply to our Happily Ever After?

That is one of the questions we will be exploring more deeply next!
