What Does it Mean to Have The Love You Deserve - Pt I

Everyone yearns to be loved … we were made for love and are to be love, giving love to others. We were made from love and made for love. So, how are we loved by God/Divine and what does this look like? What does this look like in our relationships? What is the love you are to be giving others? What is the love you deserve? How do you deserve to be loved? And how do others deserve to be loved by you?

We all want someone who cherishes us, believes in us, uplifts us, cares out us and our soul as well as empowers us in our being and existence. Yet, everyday we forget God cherishes us, believes in us, uplifts us, cares about us, cares about our souls, and empowers us with the Holy Spirit in our being and in our existence. Are we this way towards others and those we love and care about? What about the person we are in love with?

Peck argues that this type of love, this deep love is the love you deserve. The love that God gives us everyday, but also, that we are to find in our relationships here on earth. The love we deserve, Peck refers to as the Universal Song of Love. This includes

  • A bond of unity, so rich and empowering that it equals or exceeds the best friendship you have ever experienced,

  • Kindness and honesty flowing so consistently from the other that you experience liberation from fear, guilt, condemnation, or anxiety in your love life.

  • Your innermost dreams cherished and nurtured so fully that you feel empowered to express all that you yearn to be

  • Genuine equality in every area of your love life including love making, decision making, lifepath, pursuit, socializing, financing, and daily living.

  • The delight and satisfaction of perpetual intimacy and a deep assurance of unconditional love.

  • Loving, powerful listening - so deep that you feel understood and esteemed to the core of your heart

  • The exhiliration of loving yourself / accepting yourself perfectly (even in your imperfectness)

  • Experiencing a love that flows out from pure spirituality…. being grounded so much in spirituality that love flows out from you.

Peck further argues, we all have the right to this kind of love, and when we or others fail to live up to this, that it is through collective consciousness that we reach the point where others believe we all have the right to perfect love. While Peck focuses on the right to perfect love (which in my case, as a Catholic, I believe can only be found in your relationship with Christ/God/Divine - as God is the all-perfect, all wonderful, all-loving, all-kind and all generous), I will also be focusing on how some of these are also present within true love. True love is different than perfect love in the aspect that true love includes the imperfect. True love includes you being imperfect, where as God/Christ/Divine is all perfect.

God already has this perfect love for you. For true love to be present, you have to be able to conceive of it being possible. Peck states" “you are not likely to experience love greater than your consciousness can conceive” and that what holds you back from true love and even perfect love is your own thinking. If you doubt you can have perfect love or that you are perfectly love, it will make it difficult for you to be open to receiving the perfect love of God, the way to receive the perfect love of God is to have faith, and be filled with faith. It is the same with True Love. For it to be present in your life you must believe, trust, and have faith. In this regard, everyone has the right to Perfect Love aka a right to God/Divine, a right to a relationship with the Divine/God/Christ etc.

So now that we know, believe, trust, have faith and feel that it is possible,

what does this Perfect Love and True Love concretely look like in our relationships?

we will be addressing this in our next post ….
