Hancock House Festival of Trees: A Timeless Holiday Tradition
For over 30 years, the Hancock House Festival of Trees has been a beloved holiday tradition, bringing joy and festive cheer to all who visit. Running from Thanksgiving through December 31, this enchanting event transforms the Hancock House into a winter wonderland, showcasing the creativity, artistry, and holiday spirit of local individuals, families, and organizations.
The Hancock House, with its four floors fully adorned with over 50 beautifully decorated trees and festive displays, becomes a magical place where memories are made. Each year, the entries from participants shine with unique themes, adding to the charm and beauty of this holiday celebration. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning to experience the magic again, the Festival of Trees never fails to inspire awe and wonder.
This year, we were thrilled to attend and experience the breathtaking displays in person. The creativity on display was simply remarkable, with each tree telling its own unique story through intricate decorations and thoughtful design. It was truly a joy to stroll through the rooms and take in the festive atmosphere, all while feeling the warmth and excitement of the holiday season.
A special theme is chosen each year to inspire decorators, and those looking to participate in this festive competition can compete for exciting cash prizes. The entries are judged by a panel of three anonymous judges, who select winners in various categories, making the event even more thrilling for participants and visitors alike.
The categories for awards include:
Best Theme: A $100 prize is awarded to the tree or display that best represents the chosen theme.
Most Creative: A $100 prize goes to the most imaginative and innovative design.
Best Children’s (Under 18): A $50 prize for the young artists who create the most enchanting tree or display.
Best Non-Tree Holiday Display: A $50 prize for the most festive non-tree display.
The winners are celebrated at a free reception, usually held on the first Sunday of December, where the winners are announced, and prizes are awarded in a joyful and festive atmosphere.
The Festival of Trees is not just about competition but about coming together as a community to celebrate the spirit of the season. It’s a time for families and friends to gather, stroll through the beautifully decorated rooms, and make holiday memories that will last a lifetime.
