Erik Kihss is a NYC based jazz pianist, educator, composer and arranger with a Masters degree in music education from Columbia University Teachers College and a Bachelors degree from NYU. He studied jazz piano with Sanford Gold, Norman Gold and Don Friedman, and classical with Isle Wunsch, and Dr. Robert Pace. He has been playing professionally for many years in the greater New York area and has taught jazz piano at the Third St. Music School and the Norman Gold studios in Manhattan. He retired from the NYC Department of Education in 2018 where he was a High School music teacher and was music director at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Flushing, NY from Sept. 2015 to Feb. 2020. He currently works as a pianist at the Silver Bay YMCA of the Adirondacks on Lake George, NY. He also currently plays frequently with banjo virtuoso Scott Hopkins and his group.
