Pianist ~ Erik Kihss

Erik hails from Queens, NY … He is a jazz pianist/composer/arranger/educator/church music director . With a Masters degree in music education from Columbia University Teachers College and a Bachelors degree from NYU. He studied jazz piano with Sanford Gold, Norman Gold and Don Friedman, and classical with Isle Wunsch at NYU and Dr. Robert Pace at Columbia. He played piano for many years in the greater New York area and teaching jazz piano at the Third St. Music School and the Norman Gold studios. He retired in 2018 after 20 years of teaching high school music in NYC for the Department of Education and was music director at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Flushing, NY from Sept. 2015 to Feb. 2020. He currently works as a pianist during the summer at the Silver Bay YMCA resort on Lake George. He enjoys composing and freelancing with various Jazz and Latin ensembles throughout the year.
In his leisure time he loves salt water fishing and vacationing in the Adirondacks, and supports environmental groups such as the Nature Conservancy and the Sierra Club, as well as the Red Cross.
